I am for an art of rainbows and unicorns.
I am for an art of eclipses.
I am for an art of fluffy puppies after a rainstorm.
I am for an art that gets up and goes running after waking up with a severe hangover.
I am for an art that wears high heels to go hiking in the mountains.
I am for an art that bleeds creation, that vomits insight and that shits out the excrement that will be alchemically transmuted by sweat and tears to gold.
I am for an art that gives birth to Typhon.
I am for an art that dances on the charnel grounds.
I am for an art that takes limes and makes caipirinhas.
I am for an artist who swaggers like a cowboy after a long day riding horseback and roping steer and speaks with a pipe hanging from her lips.
I am for an art that says, “Dahling!” and wears maribou feathers to the grocery store.
I am for an art of butterflies and razor blades.
I am for an art that giggles like a baby’s belly laugh.
I am for an art of bottle rockets, smoke signals and fireworks. Especially fireworks.
I am for an art cooked black and blue and served bloody rare, smeared with foie gras on top and fresh rites on the side, accompanied by a sumptuous glass of Bordeaux.
I am for an art of such beauty that the world soul cries tears of poignant terror and bliss.
I am for an art with feathers, scales, hair, claws, fins and martinis.
I am for an artist made of shag carpets, eyes of newt and foggy moonless nights.
I am for an art that babbles about what I am an art for.
I am for a life that has an erotic union with art and universes are born.
Mother Jaguar, In the collection of Kenneth Folk
This wonderful poem or manifesto style is an homage to the great Claes Oldenburg. You can read his original HERE
I wrote the first one of these many years ago and I have recently revised it to stay current. It’s nice to know that while I added a few things, I didn’t delete any of my old lines meaning that my core values for what I am about as an artist run pretty deep.
This is an incredible practice and one I highly recommend writing for yourself. You may be surprised as to what comes out in the flow.
No YouTube this week as I am waist deep in working on and filming the demo for my Visionary Beast curse with Vitra. Here’s a sneak peak at the progress made for the first class last Saturday where we completed the first three layers of the painting and finished the underpainting. I’ll be back to posting another instructional video next week on my channel.
Thanks everyone! Wishing you a wonderful week!
