I have been working on a long-ish post about the wonders and glories of the Mische Technique, the technique I paint in and teach, and I was really hoping to get it out before I left for vacation. But the hustle and bustle of the week leading up to leaving did not allow for it. So, y’all have that to look forward to soon!
In the meantime, I want to take seriously my commitment to detox from socials, email and screen time while I’m out here. Where am I? I’m in Nosara, Costa Rica. This is the second time I’ve been to Costa Rica in my life. The first was when I was 16 and had the chance to come here as part of my high school’s language program. I have been in love with this place ever since and being back feels like I am very much at home here again.
I didn’t bring any work with me but just some art materials and a little side project I have no time limit or pressure on and most importantly, I brought a book. I am reading Hellenic Tantra by Gregory Shaw and it is absolutely everything I want it to be. I have been spouting off that someone needs to do a synthesis research project on theurgy and Hindu practices for like 5 or 6 years and finally someone has done it. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.
The beach where we are staying has some incredible shells and rocks and since we can’t collect and take them home, I decided to collect them in a different way. Each day as I am moved, I will bring a shell or two back to the room and use them as study subjects. This way, I get to stare at their beauty and take them home in a way that doesn’t harm the environment. Here’s the first one. I’ll share the rest when I am home in a few weeks.
So as I type this and snack on paprika flavored yucca chips and sip on my detox smoothie, I will be signing off until the week of the 19th when I’ll share all of the fun shell studies I’ve been working on these two weeks along with some fun updates.
I hope you all are having a good summer and enjoy the rest of the Olympics. I’m going through a bit of withdrawal even though Hawk asks me to be a Dressage “pony” multiple times a day.
